SQL Engineer – Remote Contractor

About the role

As a SQL Engineer you will work remotely on an hourly paid basis reviewing AI‑generated SQL queries, database designs, and data‑processing logic. You will generate high‑quality reference solutions and step‑by‑step explanations for complex data problems, assess accuracy and clarity, identify methodological or indexing errors, fact‑check data claims, and rank multiple AI responses on correctness, performance and reasoning quality. The role is with SME Careers, a fast‑growing AI data services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, contributing directly to improving premier AI models used across industries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI training content by creating detailed prompts and responses that guide AI learning across diverse subjects.
• Optimize AI performance by evaluating and ranking AI responses to improve accuracy, fluency and contextual relevance.
• Ensure model integrity by testing AI models for inaccuracies or biases and validating reliability across use cases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of professional experience working with SQL in production environments as a Database Engineer, SQL Developer or Data Engineer.
• Expert‑level proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, window functions, aggregation strategies and query‑plan analysis.
• Proven experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies and troubleshooting concurrency or locking issues.
• Hands‑on experience designing relational data models, star and snowflake schemas, and building large‑scale ETL/ELT pipelines on cloud or on‑prem platforms.
