Backend Developer (Node.js / NestJS)

About the role

We are seeking a Backend Developer to take ownership of an existing production backend that powers our live products. You will inherit a fully‑operational system built with Node.js, NestJS and PostgreSQL, and be responsible for its stability, performance and evolution.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and extend the NestJS/TypeScript services that serve mobile (Flutter) and web front‑ends.
• Design, document and version REST APIs, including pagination, error handling and OpenAPI specifications.
• Plan and execute database schema changes, write efficient queries and manage migrations on large production tables.
• Implement and monitor background job processing using queues such as BullMQ, RabbitMQ or SQS, ensuring idempotency and proper retry logic.
• Develop real‑time features with WebSockets, push notifications and shared pub/sub layers.
• Handle authentication and authorisation flows with JWTs, refresh‑token rotation and role‑based access control.
• Diagnose production incidents, optimise performance through indexing, caching (Redis) and resource monitoring on Linux/Docker environments.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience, at least 1 year with Node.js in production.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous JavaScript/TypeScript patterns and their failure modes.
• Hands‑on experience with NestJS or a comparable structured framework.
• Proven ability to take a system into production and support it long‑term.
