Scala Engineer (Remote Contractor)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Scala Engineer to work remotely on an hourly‑paid contract basis. You will review AI‑generated Scala code, system designs, and technical explanations, and produce high‑quality reference implementations and step‑by‑step reasoning for complex engineering problems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI training content by creating detailed prompts on Scala/JVM topics and writing reference answers.
• Evaluate and rank AI responses to improve correctness, safety, performance, and relevance.
• Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, unsafe patterns, and bias, ensuring reliability across real‑world use cases.
• Identify and correct errors in concurrency, distributed‑system behavior, JVM performance, functional correctness, and resource handling.
• Fact‑check technical information and produce clear, high‑quality explanations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional experience building production systems with Scala.
• Expert‑level proficiency in Scala 2.13+ and/or Scala 3, with deep knowledge of the type system, implicits/givens, collections, and functional patterns.
• Strong JVM fundamentals, including memory model, garbage collection, profiling, and performance tuning.
• Extensive experience with concurrency/effect systems (cats‑effect, ZIO) or actor‑based frameworks (Akka/Pekko).
• Experience designing and operating micro‑services, messaging/streaming, retries, idempotency, backpressure, and consistency trade‑offs in distributed environments.
• Proficiency with testing frameworks (ScalaTest, MUnit, ScalaCheck) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfort with build tools (sbt, Maven, Gradle) and version‑control best practices.
• Minimum C1 English proficiency, both written and spoken.
