Ocean Planning Associate

About the role

Flexport’s Ocean Planning team is looking for an Ocean Planning Associate to support the end‑to‑end planning and booking of ocean freight shipments across its regional export network. The role will work closely with account management, execution, procurement and carrier partners to ensure smooth operations and contribute to the company’s growth targets.

Key responsibilities

• Execute end‑to‑end planning and booking of ocean freight shipments, including origin intermodal movements.
• Serve as the first escalation point for issue resolution and process improvement for specific trade lanes or carriers.
• Coordinate daily operations with Account Management, Ocean Execution, Allocation & Procurement, ROM and Ocean Carriers.
• Maintain FMT data such as allocation, sailing schedules and cut‑off dates.
• Perform pre‑bookings, support trial shipments and manage rollover lists.
• Develop best practices, drive function enhancements, conduct automation studies and provide feedback to tech teams.
• Analyse utilization data and compare forecasts versus allocation.
• Manage exceptions and escalations within agreed SLA.
• Build and maintain carrier relationships, gather market intelligence and monitor performance metrics.
• Work with Ocean Procurement and Allocation & Yield on allocation planning, hard allocation and soft allocation requests.
• Optimize net revenue, manage deadfreight performance and monitor OTE and related metrics.
• Contribute to continuous process improvement and undertake additional projects as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, business or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in ocean freight planning or a similar logistics role.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret data and drive improvements.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across multiple internal teams and external carriers.
• Detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Experience with ocean freight booking systems and FMT data management.
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of carrier allocation, sailing schedules and cut‑off processes.
• Familiarity with process automation and continuous improvement methodologies.
