FreeCAD / Mechanical CAD Expert, AI Computer-Use Trainer

About the role

SME Careers is seeking a remote, hourly contract specialist to bridge the gap between AI agents and parametric CAD. You will design realistic FreeCAD tasks, record expert demonstrations, and define objective success criteria that AI models can learn from and be benchmarked against.

Key responsibilities

• Author production‑realistic CAD tasks, from simple sketches to multi‑step assemblies and export workflows.
• Record end‑to‑end expert demonstrations using provided screen‑capture tools, capturing interface state and file changes.
• Document each workflow step‑by‑step in clear English and specify verification and success criteria.
• Define intermediate checkpoints and distinguish between dimensionally correct and truly correct models.
• Review and quality‑check submissions from other contributors, ensuring realism and completeness.
• Maintain project standards: no personal data, no confidential geometry, and no use of closed‑source AI assistants.

Required profile

• 2–5 years of professional mechanical design, product development, or manufacturing engineering experience.
• Genuine proficiency in FreeCAD, especially Sketcher and Part Design workbenches.
• Solid parametric modeling fundamentals: fully‑constrained sketches, datum planes, expressions, spreadsheet‑driven parameters, and awareness of topological naming.
• Working knowledge of at least two additional FreeCAD workbenches (e.g., Assembly, TechDraw, Draft, Spreadsheet, FEM, CAM/Path).
• Fluency with STEP, IGES, BREP, STL/mesh formats and their practical implications.
• Ability to install and run recording tools on Windows 11, Ubuntu (X11) or macOS, and comfort being screen‑recorded.
• English proficiency (minimum B2) with strong written documentation skills.
