About the role
The Road Quantity Surveyor & Cost Estimator will lead the preparation of accurate quantity take‑offs, bills of quantities, unit‑rate analyses and tender prices for road construction projects. The role ensures that tender submissions are complete, realistic, competitive and profitable.
Key responsibilities
- Review tender drawings, specifications and contract documents to identify discrepancies, missing items and cost risks.
- Prepare and verify detailed quantity take‑offs and bills of quantities for earthworks, pavement, drainage and related civil works.
- Develop unit‑rate analyses and cost build‑ups covering materials, labour, equipment, transportation, overheads and profit.
- Coordinate with Procurement to obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Produce tender cost summaries, assess profitability risks and recommend appropriate tender prices.
- Identify value‑engineering opportunities and support cost revisions during negotiations.
- Collaborate with the Road Technical Engineer, Project Manager, Procurement and Finance to align estimates with construction methods and schedules.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Highway, Transportation Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in road/infrastructure quantity surveying, cost estimation or tender preparation.
- Hands‑on experience with road earthworks, pavement, drainage, culverts and related civil works.
- Proven ability to produce accurate quantity take‑offs, BoQs and unit‑rate analyses for competitive tenders.
- Experience with government or donor‑funded infrastructure projects (World Bank, ADB, JICA) is an advantage.
- Strong written and spoken English, high numerical accuracy and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Required skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Expertise in quantity take‑off, BoQ preparation, unit‑rate analysis and cost estimation.
- Ability to read and interpret road drawings, profiles, cross‑sections and technical specifications.
- Good knowledge of road construction methods and materials.
