Learning Commons Facilitator

About the role

The Learning Commons Facilitator provides digitally‑enabled learning support and helps students and teachers access academic resources. Working in a service‑oriented environment, the role blends modern librarianship, student support, and digital capability development to promote a digital‑first learning experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students and staff in locating and using digital libraries, e‑books, journals, and physical collections.
• Deliver guidance on finding quality academic sources, referencing, academic integrity, and effective digital study practices.
• Run workshops, drop‑in sessions, and orientation activities to build digital and information literacy.
• Promote the use of digital resources over print and support the transition to a digital‑first environment.
• Provide a welcoming frontline presence in the Learning Commons, ensuring a high‑quality experience for users.
• Collaborate closely with Digital Learning Facilitators and the Centre for Learning Innovation.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic individual with strong learning capacity and motivation.
• Passion for supporting students and teachers in a higher‑education setting.
• Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to evolving digital tools.
• Prior experience in similar support roles is valued but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Moodle (UPOP) or similar learning management systems.
• Experience using digital library platforms such as McGraw Hill Access.
• Basic AI literacy and understanding of ethical research practices.
