Manager, Asset Quality Management

About the role

The Manager, Asset Quality Management leads the collection and recovery function, handling delinquent accounts, negotiating repayment plans, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This senior position requires strong analytical and negotiation skills to reduce non‑performing loan ratios while maintaining positive borrower relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Contact debtors via phone, email, letters or visits, discuss reasons for non‑payment and negotiate suitable repayment plans.
• Track overdue accounts, maintain detailed interaction records, monitor repayment schedules and generate collection performance reports.
• Develop and execute recovery plans for high‑risk accounts, including restructuring, legal action or settlements, to lower NPL ratios.
• Ensure collection practices comply with local regulations and coordinate with legal teams for repossession or court proceedings.
• Provide empathetic customer service, act as liaison between borrowers, internal teams and external agencies, and resolve disputes.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Economics, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 8‑10+ years banking experience, with at least 7‑8 years in asset quality management, collections or recovery.
• Strong analytical ability, knowledge of local regulatory requirements, and excellent negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work in a matrixed, demanding environment with high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Good written and spoken English.
