Database Administrator – PostgreSQL & EDB

About the role

The organization is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to ensure the availability, performance, integrity, and security of its PostgreSQL and EDB Postgres environments. The role involves managing high‑availability clusters, backup/recovery solutions, and scheduled maintenance across development, staging, and production systems.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL/EDB servers; set up instances, roles, permissions, and connection pooling (Pgpool‑II or PgBouncer).
• Design, deploy, and maintain high‑availability clusters using EDB Postgres Failover Manager, including automated failover, load balancing, and query routing.
• Configure and monitor streaming and logical replication, manage standby servers, and address replication lag.
• Tune queries, indexes, and server parameters; perform capacity planning, autovacuum tuning, and table partitioning.
• Plan and execute off‑hours maintenance such as VACUUM, REINDEX, data archiving, and reindexing with minimal production impact.
• Design backup strategies with pgBackRest, manage repositories, and regularly test point‑in‑time recovery.
• Manage security, user privileges, patching, and audit database activity.
• Set up monitoring and alerting, respond to incidents, and conduct root‑cause analysis.

Required profile

• Proven experience administering PostgreSQL and EDB Postgres in production environments.
• Strong SQL knowledge and understanding of database internals (query planning, MVCC, vacuum mechanics).
• Hands‑on experience with high‑availability clustering, replication, backup/recovery, and Linux/Unix administration.
• Willingness to perform scheduled maintenance during off‑hours.
