Public Health Subject Matter Expert (Remote Contractor)

About the role

In this hourly, remote contractor position you will act as a Public Health Subject Matter Expert, reviewing AI‑generated public‑health responses and creating expert content. You will evaluate reasoning quality, provide precise written feedback, and help improve AI models for population‑health guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed prompts and gold‑standard answers covering epidemiology, public‑health practice, policy, prevention and risk‑communication topics.
• Evaluate, rank and compare AI responses to enhance correctness, clarity, contextual relevance and scientific rigor.
• Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, misleading evidence, unsafe recommendations or bias, and validate reliability across different populations and settings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Policy, Global Health or related field (MPH preferred).
• At least 5 years of professional experience in public‑health settings such as government, NGOs, academia, healthcare systems or consulting.
• Strong confidence in public‑health reasoning, including problem framing, causal thinking, bias awareness and risk stratification.
• Deep understanding of disease processes at the population level, prevention strategies, screening, vaccination principles and health‑behavior frameworks.
• Excellent attention to detail for fact‑checking, identifying unsafe assumptions, misleading causal claims and incorrect statistical interpretations; minimum C1 English proficiency.
• Ability to evaluate answers for internal consistency (denominators, rates vs risks, time horizons, surveillance definitions, uncertainty).
• Reliable, self‑directed and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote workflow across time zones.
• Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, guideline work, systematic reviews, program evaluation, policy analysis or editorial QA is strongly preferred.
