About the role
As Director of Engineering you will set the strategic direction for platform engineering, driving automation, scalability and operational excellence across all development teams. This senior leadership role oversees DevOps and SRE, champions AI‑driven workflows and aligns platform priorities with business goals in a regulated banking environment.
Key responsibilities
- Set strategy and roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform, delivering self‑service infrastructure and standardized CI/CD pipelines.
- Drive end‑to‑end automation of the software development lifecycle to eliminate manual toil.
- Lead and develop the DevOps/SRE organization, fostering an automation‑first, engineering‑led culture.
- Represent platform engineering in senior leadership forums, reporting on reliability, risk and cost.
- Champion adoption of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code and Copilot to enhance code generation and incident analysis.
- Define architecture and standards for scalable CI/CD systems with rapid feedback loops.
- Own observability strategy, including metrics, logs, traces and SLO/SLI‑based reliability.
- Oversee infrastructure and cloud budget, driving cost optimisation.
Required profile
- At least 10 years of experience in DevOps, SRE or Platform Engineering, with 5 years in senior leadership roles.
- Proven track record of setting platform strategy and delivering self‑service engineering environments.
- Experience leading high‑performing teams in regulated sectors such as banking or financial services.
Required skills
- Kubernetes and container technologies
- Major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and configuration management (Ansible)
- CI/CD pipeline design and automation
- Python, Go or similar programming languages
- Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
- AI‑assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot)
- Reliability engineering concepts (SLO, SLI, error budgets)
- DevSecOps practices and security controls (RBAC, secrets management)
