Bioinformatics Research Engineer – BAIA Unit

About the role

As a Bioinformatics Research Engineer you will apply bioinformatics, data science and AI methods to analyse DNA and RNA sequencing data for infectious-disease research. You will work within the newly created Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence Application (BAIA) Unit, collaborating with biologists, clinicians and IT specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quantitative, statistical and qualitative analyses of NGS and single-cell RNA-seq data using command-line tools, Python and R.
• Design, implement, test and document reproducible bioinformatics pipelines with workflow managers such as Nextflow.
• Develop and maintain open-source software tools, applying version control, testing and code-review best practices.
• Write and update Standard Operating Procedures for analytical workflows and infectious-disease surveillance.
• Support training activities by delivering Linux, programming, bioinformatics and high-performance computing workshops.
• Prepare figures, reports, presentations and contribute to scientific publications.

Required profile

• Fluent English (very good knowledge).
• Full-time availability for a 1-year renewable contract.
• Ability to work remotely with management approval.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• R for statistical analysis and single-cell RNA-seq.
• Command-line Linux environment.
• Nextflow or similar workflow management systems.
• Version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Software-engineering practices: testing, documentation, reproducible environments.
• Experience with NGS data analysis and bioinformatics pipelines.
